Those are some cool photographs! I do art for a living and use Photoshop every single day. The trick to getting pictures to look like that is to treat it like a painting.

You can use the preset setting for contrast and colors but the only way to get photos to look that striking is to use a Photoshop brush and manually darken and lighten areas. Another trick would be to select smaller portions of your photos and adjust the color so that they intensify and pop more.

Owning a nice digital SLR camera would be nice but they’re $ 600-$ 8,000. If you have a normal digital camera the only thing you really have to worry about is having good lighting. Flash looks horrible in professional photos. If you want an artsy feel you’re going to have to produce your own lighting.

I hope that helps!

Q&A: Any tips and tricks for scaling down images without blurring in Photoshop?

Question by : Any tips and tricks for scaling down images without blurring in Photoshop?
I have an image that’s about 500px wide that I’ve scaled down to about 100px wide.

A part of the image is a newspaper. After scaling it more or less looks blurred. The overall images is a fan arrangement of magazines/newspapers.

Any tips or tricks on this, mateys?

This is the nature of raster graphics (which I can safely assume you’re dealing with). The more you reduce an image’s dimensions by scaling the image, the fewer pixels there are available to render the details of the image. The best you can do in this case without getting too deep is to apply a Sharpen filter. I prefer using Unsharp Mask because it gives greater control over the results.

Q&A: Photoshop. Hints, tips, and tricks?

Question by : Photoshop. Hints, tips, and tricks?
I am what I like to call a “intermediate” photographer. Portraits and Cars are my strongest areas.

The pictures turn out great, and they are appealing to many people. But I want to do more and add some effects with CS4, to give it that special touch.

I am familiar with curves, levels, b/w mask, and a couple other adjustment layers. But I would like to expand.

Any helpful car editing photoshop tricks that you can suggest??

Best answer:

Answer by mike_is_the_stig
well, you could make the car in b/w and the background in colour, or the car in colour and the background in b/w.

you could, if you have the numberplate in the shot, make the numberplate in b/w, or in negative (black background, white text), like on the really old cars…..
